A Computed Tomography (CT) certificate allows you to expand your role as a radiologic technologist by specializing in advanced imaging. You鈥檒l be qualified to perform CT scans that provide detailed, cross-sectional images used to diagnose a wide range of conditions.

This advanced credential can open the door to specialized roles in hospitals, trauma centers and outpatient imaging facilities, where CT imaging plays a critical role in patient care and diagnosis. It also allows you to grow your expertise in a high-demand area of medical imaging.

The Computed Tomography Certificate Program at Moraine Valley is designed to be completed in one year.

The Computed Tomography (CT) certificate can typically be completed in about one year when attending full time.

This advanced certificate is designed for licensed radiologic technologists who want to specialize in CT imaging. Throughout the program, you鈥檒l build skills in patient care, imaging procedures and the operation of CT equipment while developing the precision needed to produce high-quality diagnostic images.

Coursework includes a combination of lecture, lab activities, case studies and hands-on clinical experience in real healthcare settings.

This program qualifies for up to $8,000 in tuition assistance.

This program requires a completed Radiologic Technology degree to apply.

In addition to registration costs, students are responsible for the following costs:

  • BOOKS
    Book costs are estimated at approximately $500. The  will have the most accurate information regarding costs.
  • PRECLINICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Students must meet a set of pre-clinical requirements prior to clinical assignment. Requirements and estimated costs include:
    • CPR FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
      Prior to clinical placement, admitted students must submit an active current certificate of completion from an American Heart Association 鈥 Basic Life (BLS) for Health Care Providers. This course is available at Moraine Valley course code AH8-039, CPR for Health Professionals. This is a non-credit hour course. This course is designed for health care professionals either new healthcare students or current healthcare professionals. Included: Adult/Pediatric CPR, one/two rescuer with a barrier device, AED and FBAO/choking. Students who are not already certified through the American Heart Association 鈥 Basic Life (BLS) for healthcare Providers must obtain certification as a separate activity during prior to clinical assignment. Moraine Valley offers CPR for healthcare provider training through Corporate, Community and Continuing Education. For more information on CPR for healthcare providers, contact Corporate, Community and Continuing Education at (708) 974-5741 or ccce@morainevalley.edu. Students are financially responsible for the CPR training required.
    • PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
      Prior to clinical placement, students are required to obtain a physical examination in preparation for RAD 263 – Mammography Clinical Internship. The student is responsible for the cost of the physical examination, and all of the immunizations, blood tests and tuberculosis tests specified on the physical examination form.
    • HEALTH INSURANCE
      好色先生 requires students to have personal health insurance for the duration of their clinical rotation.
    • DRUG SCREEN
      Students will be required to submit to and successfully complete a drug screen prior to clinical assignment. Unsuccessful completion of the drug screen requirement may prohibit a student from receiving a clinical assignment, pending physician review of the results.
    • CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS
      In order to comply with certain state statutes and/or clinical affiliation agreements, students are asked to complete a criminal background check. Students who have an arrest or conviction on their record should consult an attorney regarding expungement procedures. A 鈥渃lear” criminal background result is required in most cases. Application forms for criminal background checks may be obtained through the Career Programs Subdivision Office, B150, and fees paid to the Cashier’s Office. The cost is $27, subject to change without notice. For information on criminal background application procedures, please contact the Career Programs Subdivision Office at (708) 974-5708. Deadline dates for completion of criminal background checks will be announced by program coordinators.
    • TRANSPORTATION
      Students are responsible for the cost of transportation to the clinical sites and to the campus.

      Certification and Licensing
      Program graduates are eligible to take the Computerized Tomography Certification Examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). This is a national exam.

      Successful completion of the Moraine Valley Computer Tomography Technology Certificate Program allows graduates eligibility for licensing by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Division of Nuclear Safety. For more information, see the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS).
