New Student Orientation

All students who plan to enroll at Moraine Valley to pursue an associate’s degree or prepare to transfer, are required to complete the orientation program. New Student Orientation is an essential step in beginning your educational journey.

Please complete the following steps in order

Students must take placement tests or submit appropriate high school transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, AP scores, or college transcripts for exemptions prior to completing Part I. You might be eligible for an exemption. If eligible, submit transcripts to transcripts@morainevalley.edu. We highly encourage students to take the placement test twice.

To begin Part I, please log in.

The Part II portion of New Student Orientation is mandatory for all students who are planning to complete a degree. You will speak with an academic advisor to discuss your academic plans, course options, and how to register and pay for your first semester courses. Please follow the directions after successfully passing your Part I quiz to request your session with an advisor.

College 101 is a course designed especially to help you become a successful college student. 

You will be introduced to college resources, learn to develop your education plan, and revisit and/or learn new study skills, just to name a few course topics. You may even make a new friend or two along the way.

The research on student outcomes shows that students who completed College 101:

  • Performed better during their first semester than their peers who do not enroll in the course or who enrolled, but did not successfully complete the course.
  • Earned higher first semester grade point averages than those who did not successfully complete the course.
  • Earned higher cumulative grade point averages at the end of their first year than those who did not successfully complete the course.
  • Completed a higher percentage of their first semester credit hours.
  • Were more likely to continue their enrollment to the second semester and second year.

Course Description

College: Changes, Challenges, Choices (COL-101), provides an opportunity to assess your purpose for college and your study strategies, set college and career goals, examine your values and decision-making skills, and develop an appreciation for diversity. This one-credit-hour course is a requirement for all entering degree-seeking students. All degree-seeking students are required to enroll in and successfully complete COL-101 unless they have:

  • Previously earned at least 30 semester hours of college credit. Credit must be documented on a college transcript, or
  • Successfully completed Moraine Valley course COL-101 or HDV-101, or
  • Earned higher cumulative grade point averages at the end of their first year than those who did not successfully complete the course.
  • Successfully completed a course equivalent to COL-101 at another college. Course must be documented and have earned credit reflected on college transcript.

Moraine Valley students are required to have a photo identification card to use certain college facilities, such as the library, Testing Center and computer labs, and to take advantage of certain savings, such as discounts for Fine and Performing Arts Center events and to obtain a student rate at the Health, Fitness and Recreation Center.
Students enrolled in noncredit courses do not need a photo identification card unless required by their instructor.

How to Get Your ID

Getting your Moraine Valley ID is simple 鈥� just present two forms of identification, have your picture taken, and you’ll get your ID in a few minutes.
The two required forms of identification are:

  • Current class schedule
  • Picture ID with names, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or high school ID. Passport allowed for international students without a driver’s license.

Pictures of photo IDs will not be accepted.

Keep your ID with you at all times! Do not discard your photo ID after the semester is over. You’ll need it throughout your attendance at Moraine Valley. Students should maintain possession of their photo ID despite enrollment status.

The photo ID will be continuously updated for two years or six semesters, following initial issue. After the completion of the second year and/or the sixth semester, a student is eligible to have a new ID issued, at no charge, subject to the same terms as the original ID. Returning students previously issued a photo ID may be eligible for a new photo ID at no charge if at least 12 months have lapsed since last enrollment.

This card is the property of 好色先生 and is not transferable. It must be surrendered to college officials upon request.

Fee

$3 per semester, billed to you when you register.

Lost ID

Lost, misplaced, stolen, or damaged ID cards within two years of issuance are subject to a $5 replacement fee. Note: the only exception will be those students noted above with a 12-month enrollment lapse.

Report a lost ID to the Moraine Valley Police Department in Building P, (708) 974-5555, and go to Photo ID Services for invalidation and replacement.

Wednesday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
*Hours vary during summer and when classes aren鈥檛 in session.
