Build the knowledge and practical skills needed to begin a career in law enforcement, corrections or the court system.
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Criminal Justice prepares students for entry-level careers across the criminal justice system while providing a strong foundation in policing, the courts and corrections.
Coursework focuses on criminal justice principles, law enforcement, corrections and the judicial system while helping students develop the knowledge and skills needed for careers in public safety and criminal justice.

Build the knowledge and practical skills needed to prepare for and respond to emergencies across a variety of public safety and business settings.
The Emergency Management Certificate provides students with a strategic interdisciplinary foundation in emergency preparedness, combining public safety and business concepts with real-world applications and industry best practices.
Coursework focuses on emergency planning, operational readiness, professional development and emergency management principles while preparing students to support organizations before, during and after emergency situations.

Build the advanced medical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to provide lifesaving care in emergency situations.
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Paramedic prepares students for careers as paramedics, equipping them with the clinical knowledge and practical experience needed to assess, treat and transport patients in a wide range of emergency situations.
Coursework focuses on advanced emergency medical care, patient assessment, medication administration, airway management and critical lifesaving procedures while preparing students for employment in ambulance services, fire departments, air medical transport and other emergency response settings. Graduates are also eligible to take the National Registry Examination for Paramedics.

The Paramedic Certificate prepares students for careers in emergency medical services and provides a pathway for current emergency medical technicians and fire service professionals to advance their careers as paramedics.
Coursework focuses on advanced patient assessment, emergency medical care, airway management, medication administration and critical lifesaving procedures while preparing students to deliver high-quality pre-hospital care in a variety of emergency settings.

Admission requirements: Students must hold a current Illinois Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license and be admitted through a selective admissions process. The program is in the process of seeking CoAEMSP accreditation approval.
Develop the essential emergency medical skills needed to provide entry-level care in emergency situations.
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate prepares students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to medical emergencies and provide critical pre-hospital care.
Coursework focuses on emergency medical procedures, patient assessment, and essential lifesaving techniques while providing 50 hours of clinical experience to help students gain real-world experience in emergency care settings. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to challenge the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians written examination.

The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Fire Science prepares students with the foundational knowledge and practical experience needed for entry-level careers in firefighting and emergency response.
Coursework focuses on fire prevention, emergency response, fire suppression techniques and the skills required for certification as a Basic Operations Firefighter in Illinois while providing hands-on training and a required internship with a local fire department.
Benefits of this program:
Prepare for a career in firefighting with training in emergency response, fire operations and rescue techniques.
The Fire Academy Certificate prepares students for entry-level firefighter positions by providing the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to earn Illinois State Fire Marshal certifications.
Coursework focuses on firefighting operations, hazardous materials response, emergency procedures, fireground safety and rescue techniques. Students complete technical instruction, hands-on training and a required internship with a local fire department to gain experience in real-world emergency response settings.

Admission requirements: Students must complete the EMS-101 course/Emergency Medical Technician program or hold a current EMT certification before admission to the Fire Academy.
Develop the legal knowledge, research skills and professional abilities needed to support attorneys and the legal community.
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Paralegal Studies prepares students for careers as paralegals by developing the writing, research, technology and ethical skills needed to provide effective support to lawyers, judges and other legal professionals.
Coursework focuses on legal research and writing, legal technology, ethics, civil and criminal law, family law, real estate law, bankruptcy law, estate planning and probate law while preparing students to assist with legal documents, case preparation and law office operations.

Program format: The first year of legal specialty coursework is completed in a synchronous format with real-time interaction between students and instructors. Most second-year legal specialty coursework is offered in an asynchronous online format, allowing students to complete assignments on their own schedules.

The Paralegal Studies Certificate prepares students with prior college experience or degrees for careers as paralegals by developing the research, writing, technology and ethical skills needed to assist lawyers, judges and other legal professionals.
Coursework focuses on legal research and writing, legal technology, ethics, civil and criminal law, family law, real estate law, bankruptcy law, estate planning and probate law while preparing students to support legal teams through document preparation, case research and law office procedures.

Program eligibility: This certificate is designed for students who have completed an Associate in Science (A.S.), Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Engineering Science (A.E.S.), Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) or higher postsecondary degree. Students with an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Associate in General Studies (A.G.S.) degree should meet with an academic advisor to determine eligibility and any additional coursework needed.
Gain foundational skills in security, loss prevention and industry practices for entry-level security roles.
The Security and Loss Prevention Certificate prepares students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in security and loss prevention while providing opportunities to complete industry-related security certifications.
Coursework focuses on security procedures, loss prevention strategies and industry practices while allowing students to complete training for a 20-hour Unarmed Security certification and a 40-hour Armed Security Guard certification.
Benefits of this program:
Certification training: Students may complete a 20-hour Unarmed Security industry certification and a 40-hour Armed Security Guard industry certification, which includes 20 hours of unarmed training and 20 hours of armed training.
Develop the knowledge needed to support emergency planning, response and recovery efforts.
The Homeland Security Certificate provides students with a foundation in homeland security principles while preparing them for careers in public safety, criminal justice, security and fire service management.
Coursework focuses on homeland security, emergency preparedness, threat prevention, response and recovery while helping students understand the roles and responsibilities of agencies that protect communities and critical infrastructure.
