Moraine Valley’s program prepares students for entry-level careers, including careers in policing, the courts and corrections.

Moraine Valley additionally offers three supplemental certificate programs, including Emergency Management, Homeland Security and Security and Loss Prevention.

Security and Loss Prevention
The Security and Loss Prevention Certificate is designed for students pursuing their A.A.S. in Criminal Justice who want to enhance their skill set and become more marketable in the workforce. Loss prevention is an integral part of the security industry. This certificate program is designed to develop policies to prevent shoplifting, coordinate security for public figures, guard valuable property or work as bodyguards.

Upon program completion, Security and Loss Prevention students will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the components of security services personnel and their role within the security services field.
  2. Explain and discuss the history and evolution of the various areas of security services.
  3. Explain and discuss the different processes in the collection and reporting of crime data in the United States.
  4. Explain the roles and functions of administrators in each component of the criminal justice system.
  5. Define terminology relevant to the criminal justice system and to the area of security services.
  6. Identify the various legal ramifications as they relate to security services.
  7. Identify and discuss personal safety as well the safety to others regarding the use of firearms.
  8. Define and discuss the role of security personnel as they relate to law enforcement.

The Security and Loss Prevention Certificate at Moraine Valley is designed to be completed in one semester.

This program provides students with basic training in security and loss prevention. While completing coursework, students also can complete industry security-related certification: a 20-hour Unarmed Security industry certification and a 40-hour Armed Security Guard industry certification (20 hour unarmed + 20 hour armed training).

Students who complete this certificate program may use all completed credit hours to pursue the related Criminal Justice A.A.S. degree.

This certificate program prepares the student for a beginning career as a heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanic, installer, or service representative. Get started in the workforce in as few as two semesters by earning this stackable certificate.

Stackable certificates allow you to earn additional certificates by taking a few additional credits and give you the freedom to begin your career while continuing to advance your options. Make yourself more marketable to future employers by earning the next certificate in the HAC series. The Heating and Air Conditioning Certificate can be completed by taking one additional semester.

This program combines both lecture and hands-on components for commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration maintenance and installation training. The certificate will serve students who are currently in the field and can demonstrate advanced proficiency or those students who have completed the courses necessary for the Advanced Air Conditioning Tech Certificate. The Commercial Systems courses deliver advanced content that is not appropriate for students who have not had the initial training on residential equipment. Students will be trained on commercial equipment and will use advanced digital controls like those found in large commercial buildings or multi-building campuses.

The Electrical Trouble Shooting Certificate consists of four courses and can be completed in one semester or taken over two semesters.

This Electrical Trouble Shooting Certificate is automatically earned after completing these three certificates:

  • Basic Air Conditioning Technician Certificate
  • Heating and Air Conditioning Certificate
  • Advanced Air Conditioning Certificate

The Heating and Air Conditioning Certificate offers additional skills to individuals who have completed the Basic Air Conditioning Technician Certificate or currently work in the field as an air conditioning technician. This certificate can be completed in one semester.
