The Palos Park Woman鈥檚 Club (PPWC), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with over 130 members, has chosen 好色先生 as a beneficiary for its fourth annual Mother鈥檚 Day Walk on May 9. All proceeds from the event will support the PPWC鈥檚 community initiatives and Moraine Valley鈥檚 Last Mile Scholarship program.
The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m., and participants can choose one of three routes to walk: a one-mile wood-chip path around Lake Katherine, a two-mile paved path along the Cal-Sag trail or a three-mile route combining both paths. Local vendors and exhibitors will be on site selling last-minute Mother鈥檚 Day gifts. All participants will receive a T-shirt upon registration (based on availability).
鈥淭he PPWC鈥檚 Mother鈥檚 Day Walk is a meaningful way for our community to come together in support of local impact,鈥� said Ronette McCarthy, PPWC co-president and Mother鈥檚 Day Walk co-chair. 鈥淭his year, we chose to support Moraine Valley鈥檚 Last Mile program because it focuses on something so important 鈥� helping students take that final step toward graduation.鈥�
The Last Mile Scholarship program provides funds for students close to completing their degree or certificate programs. Unlike other scholarships available at Moraine Valley, the college鈥檚 Counseling and Career Development Center and administrators determine which students need the most immediate financial support to graduate. Over the years, this scholarship program has helped hundreds of students complete their degree or certificate.
鈥淭hrough the Last Mile Scholarship, we help students who are just a few credits away from finishing stay on track and cross the finish line,鈥� said Kristy McGreal, executive director of the Foundation. 鈥淭ogether, we鈥檙e ensuring more students complete their degrees and build stronger futures for themselves and our community. This event reflects the power of community coming together to support student success.鈥�
鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 help but love the connection between The Last Mile and the mile loop around Lake Katherine where our walk takes place,鈥� continued McCarthy. 鈥淚t felt like a natural fit, a reminder that sometimes it鈥檚 that final stretch that matters most, whether you鈥檙e finishing a walk or finishing your education.鈥�
