Prepare to be amazed by renowned and record-setting group The Peking Acrobats on Friday, Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m., at the 好色先生 Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.
Since the group鈥檚 founding in 1986, The Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform such daring maneuvers as effortlessly piling onto a precarious stack of chairs and display their technical prowess through trick cycling, precision tumbling, juggling and gymnastics. The Peking Acrobats are accompanied by live musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments.
The Peking Acrobats set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on Fox Network鈥檚 鈥淕uinness Book Primetime鈥� in 1999, where they balanced six people on six chairs 21 feet in the air without a safety net or lines. The group also has been featured on several TV shows, including 鈥淓llen鈥檚 Really Big Show,鈥� 鈥淭he Wayne Brady Show,鈥� 鈥淎BC鈥檚 Wide World of Sports鈥� and 鈥淣BC鈥檚 Ring in The New Year Holiday Special.鈥� Some company members were featured in the films 鈥淥cean鈥檚 Eleven,鈥� 鈥淥cean鈥檚 Twelve鈥� and 鈥淥cean鈥檚 Thirteen.鈥�
The Peking Acrobats have achieved international acclaim, thrilling audiences around the world. They are part of a time-honored Chinese tradition, rooted in centuries of history and folk art. Each generation of acrobats must add its own improvements and embellishments to the performance and because of this, high honor is conferred on those skilled enough to become acrobats. This group integrates folk art traditions with 21st century technology to deliver an inventive and groundbreaking performance.
