好色先生鈥檚 Student Life Office is working with seven other Illinois community colleges to collectively deliver exciting virtual programming to the most number of students.
Since moving to remote learning in March because of COVID-19, community colleges have had to be creative when getting students involved in online campus extracurricular activities. Through the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association (ICCSAA) listserv, members commiserated about low attendance for spring virtual programs.
In June, eight colleges from ICCSAA discussed collaborating on programming to help increase attendance and split the cost. Participating colleges include Moraine Valley, Richland College, Lincoln Land Community College, Lewis and Clark Community College, Morton College, Joliet Junior College, College of Lake County, and Oakton Community College.
鈥淓ntertainment agencies were sending out emails about virtual programming that looked super fun and interactive, but to pay $1,000 to $1,500 per program for only five to 10 students to attend would not be a responsible use of funds,鈥� said Amanda O鈥機onnor, Moraine Valley Student Life manager. 鈥淐ollaborating on virtual programs with other colleges affords Student Life the opportunity to bring fun and interactive outside entertainment to Moraine Valley students. This collaboration allows our students to network with other community college students across the state all while having fun together.鈥�
Upcoming programming includes Nerdology, a pop culture trivia show; Carlos Andr茅s G贸mez, an award-winning solo performer, educator and public speaker; Joe and Nick鈥檚 VCR Party, a comedy show about two guys and their vast VHS collection; SungBeats, an award-winning beatboxer and live looper; Ryan Conner, a standup comedian; Factuality, a 90-minute crash course on structural inequality in America; and an escape room. Students will have access to program links provided by the artist/program.
