Peer Mentors

Moraine Valley鈥檚 Peer Mentoring program provides positive role models for new students and is open to all students joining the program.
What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer mentoring connects new students with experienced students who have successfully adjusted to college life. Peer mentors are trained to offer guidance and encouragement, helping new students build confidence and achieve academic success by introducing them to campus services and staff.
Who are the Peer Mentors?

Peer mentors are sophomore students selected from a variety of academic programs. They are active in student clubs and organizations and participate in campus activities. Selection is based on GPA, involvement, leadership skills, communication abilities, and a genuine interest in supporting fellow students.
The Program

Each peer mentor serves as a guide to new students during their first year. Mentors host events such as pizza parties or coffee talks to build connections and maintain regular contact through mail or phone throughout the semester.
Student Clubs

Peer mentors encourage students to get involved in campus clubs and organizations that offer leadership development, social engagement, and opportunities to connect with others.
Peer Training

Peer mentors complete 12 hours of training to develop skills in communication, support, and referral to campus resources. Training includes listening techniques, helping strategies, and information about student services at Moraine Valley.
