DESCRIPTION:Feb. 5脨March 2\nReception: Thursday\, Feb. 6 | 11 a.m.脨1 p.m. \nAs a contemporary fiber artist\, Heather Macali has focused primarily on color\, pattern\, texture\, distortion and memory. Structure & Color examines the psychology of limitations utilizing waffle weave\, a 3-dimensional single weave pattern. These works analyze this popular but mundane weave structure within a set of limitations to promote creative and unexpected outcomes. \nThis research encourages new ways to think about sculptural form using the inherent structure to create dimension within the cloth. Altering the scale\, materials\, and colors\, Macali creates impactful dimensional cloth and sculpture. This work considers color theory\, optical blending\, architectural components\, and inspiration from the genres of op-art and pop art. \nHer use of color and pattern arose out of childhood experiences steeped in the material culture of the Midwest in the 1980s and early 1990s. She worked in the fashion industry for four years as a print and pattern designer at Abercrombie & Fitch and La Senza. Macali grew up in Munroe Falls\, Ohio\, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in crafts from Kent State University. She continued her art research and development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison receiving her Master of Fine Arts degree in Textiles in 2009. Macali currently resides in Detroit\, Michigan\, working as a fiber artist and a professor at Wayne State University.

They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling\, precision tumbling\, juggling\, somersaulting\, and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability\, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion\, flexibility and control. \nThe Peking Acrobats are accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments. The time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats\, creating an exuberant entertainment event with the festive pageantry of a Chinese carnival. \nSince the group脮s founding in 1986\, The Peking Acrobats have been featured on numerous television shows and celebrity-studded TV specials. These include Nickelodeon脮s Unfabulous\, Ellen脮s Really Big Show (hosted by Ellen DeGeneres)\, The Wayne Brady Show\, That脮s Incredible\, ABC脮s Wide World of Sports\, and NBC脮s Ring in The New Year Holiday Special. They have also appeared on HDNet TV脮s In Focus series\, and have appeared regularly in 3D on NBC/Comcast脮s new 3D Channel. \nThe Peking Acrobats set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on Fox Network脮s Guinness Book Primetime television show in 1999. They balanced six people precariously atop six chairs 21 feet in the air without safety lines\, astounding audiences with their bravery and dexterity. The Peking Acrobats have also made their way onto the silver screen\, as company members were featured in Steven Soderbergh脮s hit film Ocean脮s Eleven playing alongside Julia Roberts\, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Peking Acrobats脮 alumnus Shaobo Qin also appeared in that film脮s two sequels\, Ocean脮s Twelve and Ocean脮s Thirteen. \nOver their three-decade career\, The Peking Acrobats have achieved international acclaim\, dazzling audiences around the world.
